Why is there TFE and PVDF long lead times

Throughout the last year, the industry has had more difficulties than I've come across around my thirty years experience. In the past I have seen sharp price increases, and I have witnessed several shortages, and delivery issues due to plastic resin allocations from resin companies. This is the first time I have seen all these issues at the same time.

PTFE Sheet (TFE) and Kynar both are on allocation.

The two of these resins are in short supply. The  PTFE Sheet product PTFE (TFE) along with PVDF  manufacturing requires a mineral called Fluorspar that's mined in Mongolia and China. The worldwide demand for this mineral has grown significantly, and also the supply has tightened. PTFE materials have high temperature resistance, excellent chemical resistance and very low co-efficient of friction (slippery) and is utilised in a lot of purposes from non-stick fry cookware to ptfe tape for home use. This specific mineral is actually a key raw material inside the manufacturing of fluoropolymers, fluorolubricants and many refrigerants. This increased demand joined together with general shortage of raw materials has caused a dramatic price increase (almost double over the last year), shortages, and we expect these two factors to continue in the near future.
